my first attempt at using the scanner to make a composite image was pretty successful, but further experiments are proving to be more difficult. some surfaces, like my wood floors, are very difficult to assemble, and the dimensionality of some objects create weird shifts in light and perspective, making the transition between the images too jarring. admittedly, i needed to capture more images with these, as there are too many areas that could be filled in more. the images are also very dark, which i like, but they could be brightened a bit— more direct contact with the object is one solution. i am also frustrated with trying to capture a pose that is not completely flat. in the horizontal image, i was going for slouched or crumpled pose, the thighs off the ground and the butt out a little, but e just looks sprawled out flat. tonight i am going to experiment with the dimension of the space, rather than the figure. this may prove more successful. here’s hoping.
last night e and i were talking about how tactile and physical the process was— kinetically interacting with the “camera,” having it physically invade your personal space. it’s very much a “sitting” and a performance.
